Valley View Genealogy

Valley View was a small community cemetery, used by friends, neighbors, and extended families.  Information about one family buried there often leads to clues about other families.

It is not, however, a large municipal cemetery with complete records of permits and burials since its establishment.  Instead, there are a number of information sources -- none of which are complete.

For example, we've managed to piece together its early history, compiled a list of the earliest burials, and have a photo taken when it was only about 20 years old.

We have a copy of the Ownership Map, which shows who owned each plot when the Valley View Association was dissolved and the Town of Luther assumed responsibility for the cemetery.  For plots acquired after that, we also have the date.  This does not, however, show who was buried in each plot.

A more recent [2000] online canvass lists burials since 1963, but again provides no information about location.

Old photos are currently our best source of location information.  By comparing these with other sources, we have identified a number of replacement stones as well as some graves that now appear to be unmarked.
