Early Immigrants – Poland/Ukraine Updated 30 September, 2003 My land records are limited, so I have not yet been able to identify any homesteaders as immigrants from Poland or the Ukraine -- although one who had become a naturalized citizen would certainly have been eligible to file a claim. I find this group especially interesting because several families arrived in the Luther area before the turn of the century, from different parts of the U.S. In some cases, it is possible to identify related lines that followed one of these earliest families to the area -- but this particular puzzle has many unassembled pieces. To complicate matters further, changing political boundaries led some census-takers to record birthplaces as "Poland", others as "Polish Germany", still others as "Germany" or "Russia".
