Obion Co., 1840 Census |
This is a workspace – a collection of households to be compared with families found on other records. Some can be correlated. Others can't. Ages of individuals have been determined by comparing later data or information from other sources with the 1840 Schedule. All matches are a matter of conjecture, to varying degrees, but provide clues that may lead to more solid proof. |

143. Cole, Edmon 000001-000001 |
Edmon could be an unidentified son of John Henry. I've found no evidence to either tie him to John Henry or eliminate the possibility, although I do have an A. E. COLE in northeastern Oklahoma Co. O.T. with a son named Ed and oral tradition ties them to John Henry's line. The generations line up such that Edmon could have been John Henry's son and A. E. COLE could have been Edmon's son, but all of this is conjecture. He could also have been the son of one of the other COLEs who settled in the Jackson Purchase area. |
Male 30-40 |
Presumably Edmon himself. |
Female 30-40 |
Probably Edmon's wife. |

Female 0-5 |

Female 15-20 |

The only thing suggestive of a tie to John Henry's line is the 1840 location, but none of the other COLE researchers of the Obion Co. area have been able to claim him either. He's too old to be Marvel, unless this is a transcription error, who was already married to Lucinda and supposedly living in the area but doesn't turn up on the census. |
143. Cole, James M. 300001-010010001 |
Most of this entry is what I have from other sources about James Madison COLE, Sr, enumerated as Household #638 on the 1850 census of Obion County. The only discrepancy is that the age brackets of James and his wife are reversed (they were married in Obion County on June 01, 1833 and, as far as I have been able to determine, lived their until their deaths in the 1850s). |
