By combining information from the 1890 Directory of Homesteaders and the 1900 census, it is possible to form a much clearer picture of an area and its families than can be obtained from any one source. The map and chart below provide an overview, while details about a specific homestead or family can be found in the original sources.
Green indicates homestead locations in the 1890 directory that could be matched with Dwelling #'s on the 1900 census.
With enough known locations, it's possible to reconstruct the route the census-taker traveled and thus identify the probable areas where other households were located. The census pages are dated, but the pattern suggests that the census taker dated each page as he started and undoubtedly finished some of them the following day. The 1890 Directory of Homesteads, as transcribed by Bob Chada, can be found on the Logan Co. GenWeb site. It includes the location of each homestead but only the name of the Homesteader. The 1900 census (which provides information about family members but no location), is not online but I have provided an index.

Wilson Sellars is listed on the 1900 census with his wife Mary -- probably the same Mary Sellars who died Sept. 28, 1908 and is buried in this cemetery.
