About Iowa Township
Located in the southeastern corner of Logan County, Iowa Township is now rather sparsely populated although it was the site of several early-day communities like Garden, Iowa, and Shiloh. By virtue of its location, its founding families had often had ties to families of Lincoln and Oklahoma Counties.
Garden was located near the Oklahoma County line, and is thus the community for which I have the most information. Although they lived in Logan County, the Garden Post Office was discontinued to Luther (in 1900) and the Garden School eventually became part of the Luther District.
You will find more information about the area and its families on the Logan County GenWeb site
as well as in Sharon's Place, or you can use the Iowa Township Links below.
Schools shown on the 1909 Topographic Map: Cottonbelt (southern edge of
Section 20); Garden (southern edge of Section 21); and Arnett (northern edge of
Section 35). |

Township Links
In this chart, links using Township-Range Numbers take you to the corresponding map in the set of Township Maps that I'm preparing for the entire state. Links that use Township Names take you to a page like this, which provides information about the Township and links to genealogy sites as well as the map.

Founding Families |
Genealogy reports for families in the area during Territorial Days. Because there were so many marriages across township and even county lines, these are linked as a single set instead of divided by Township. |

World Connect Project |
I have uploaded my GEDCOM for this entire area study. You can go directly
to my database, smc,
and consult its index or use the link at left and its global search feature to
find information contributed by others who are researching
area families. |

Iowa Homesteaders
(coming soon) |
This is just a partial list, covering Sections 33 & 34, gleaned from records I collected while researching my own family. Family reports for these Iowa homesteaders, as well as other families I can place in the area during Territorial days, are accessible through the Index for Sharon's Place. |

Poem |
A narrative that paints a picture of the area in the early days. Pearl Atteberry Briscoe, an Iowa Township resident, wrote this for her mother's 81st birthday. The FRIENDs and ATTEBERRYs homesteaded across the line in Oklahoma County, while the BRISCOEs were in both Oklahoma and Logan Counties. |
|
Walkers/Lumber Wagon |
A photo post card of the WALKER sisters, bearing a Luther postmark. The picture was apparently taken in southeastern Logan County, where the lumbering business was still thriving. Includes links to a considerable amount of information about the girls' family. If you're researching this area but haven't been there, do take a look at the setting. |
